Job Description The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held organization, with roots firmly planted in agriculture and agriculture-related businesses. We currently have a Senior/Database Developer position available at our global headquarters in Boise, ID. SUMMARYResponsible for multiple company wide mission-critical databases. Implement comprehensive backup and disaster recovery procedures. Manage database security, space requirements and do performance tuning. Provide expertise in database design, sizing, security and configuration. Approve and oversee database installations and upgrades. Designs and implements ETL procedures for data warehousing. Works with application developers to build logical data models that can be mapped into efficient physical designs on particular database platforms. Develops comprehensive backup and disaster recovery procedures. Oversees the work of database administrators and developers on complex projects. Provides mentoring to less-experienced team members and leadership on projects. RESPONSIBILITIESSupports the database production environment by troubleshooting and resolving database problems; designing, coordinating, and installing database structural changes, and monitoring database applications for growth to ensure the availability of adequate resources and optimal performance.Designs database structures that balance the technical requirements, such as efficiency, with the business needs of the organization.Maintains thorough knowledge of current database management and presentation technologies and methods.Oversees database installations and upgrades. Supports the database production environment by troubleshooting and resolving complex database problems.Provides the development staff with the training and support necessary to develop effective database application systems.Manages all database Servers and takes corrective action to minimize down-time and provide acceptable performance, security and reliability.Performs database tuning. Monitors database space, audits backups, and administers security.Designs, coordinates, and installs database structural changes to enhance database applications.Designs and standardizes update scripts and procedures for loading/replicating data to databases, data-marts and data warehouses. Designs database structures that balance the technical requirements, such as efficiency, with the business needs of the organization. Provides the development and technical staff with the necessary training and support to effectively use and develop database applications. Maintains a thorough knowledge of current database management and presentation technologies and methods.Mentoring of less-experienced team members.Provide leadership on project teams and regularly report on project status.Other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTSBachelor's Degree from 4-year college or universityBachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related IT field preferred. 7-plus years of experience with database systems and tools for management, tuning and troubleshooting. Advanced knowledge of MS SQL Server, data integration concepts and data warehousing. Excellent organization and communication skills and demonstrated leadership and presentation skills. Ability to work in a team environment, understand and consistently apply technical standards and produce technical documentation. Familiar with the Kimball data warehousing/business intelligence lifecycle methodology or other modern warehousing patterns and practices. Ability to organizing multiple tasks on multiple projects and oversee the completion of work items according to schedule. Ability to report on progress to project and department managers. Combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered for this position.
